Automatic Windows 11 Upgrades Begin May 1st

Automatic Windows 11 Upgrades Begin May 1st
April 24, 2025

Beginning May 1, 2025, all UBC IT managed Windows 10 PCs with hardware that supports Windows 11 will automatically be upgraded to Windows 11. This upgrade is mandatory and ensures all our devices run a supported operating system in compliance with UBC’s Information Security Standard U7 to keep UBC’s data safe.

To avoid disruptions and complete the upgrade at a time convenient for you, use the Software Centre application on your computer to upgrade before May 1, 2025. The upgrade process will take approximately 2-3 hours and can be downloaded and installed in the background while you work. For the upgrade to be applied, you will need to restart your computer. The restart process will take an additional 10-15 minutes; please plan ahead if you need your computer for a critical meeting or exam.
