Shared Web Hosting Description

The shared web hosting service runs Interworx to provide a reliable and scalable web hosting system providing a control panel to administrators and website owners, allowing self-management of hosted websites.

Benefits

  • Cost efficient – shared infrastructure decreases overall costs associated with website hosting.
  • Redundant environment – multiple load balanced web servers are dedicated to serving the websites.
  • Managed server administration – security, server/LAMP software updates, server and network monitoring, and backups are managed by UBC IT
  • Privacy compliance – your website is hosted on campus.

Web Hosting Platform

Our web hosting infrastructure runs on a standard LAMP platform:

  • Linux (RHEL 7)
  • Apache 2.4
  • MySQL - MariaDB 5.5
  • PHP - Versions Available - 5.6, 7.0, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4 (as of 2021-01)
    Version 8 is undergoing testing.

The web hosting environment offers web-based access to your hosting account through a control panel. After your account has been provisioned, you  manage your hosting service including creation of web sites, additional FTP or control panel accounts, view website statistics and schedule site backups.
