UBC is building a foundation to introduce a suite of Microsoft 365 (M365) apps into our technology environment.

Microsoft (MS) Teams is a collaboration tool for groups to create content and share the information they need to work together. The tool is operated by Microsoft as part of their MS 365 suite. MS Teams enables users across the University to connect via instant messaging, video conferencing, online meetings, and simultaneously work on a document in real-time together.

Requirements and Eligibility

Active UBC Students, Faculty and Staff

Faculty and Staff:

  • An active employee status
  • An active Enterprise Active Directory (EAD) account
  • An active Faculty and Staff (FASmail) mailbox
  • A firstname.lastname@ubc.ca email alias that is associated with their FASmail mailbox

Students:

  • An active student status
  • An active Enterprise Active Directory (EAD) account
  • An active UBC Student Email mailbox with a cwl@student.ubc.ca email address

Price

This service is offered to UBC Students, Faculty and Staff at no cost.  

The service cost is based on the Microsoft Campus Agreement and will be reassessed in a year.

Once you have access to MS Teams, please click on the "Get Started" icon in the MS Teams dashboard to access online learning.

Students

To report inappropriate/ unsolicited content on MS Teams or OneDrive, please take a screenshot of the content and report it to your Student Advisor listed in your SSC or Student Services (in case of discrimination and harassment) or Academic Advising (Vancouver)/ Academic Advising (Okanagan).

If you would like the content to be removed, please request the Teams owner.

Faculty or Staff

To report inappropriate/ unsolicited content on MS Teams or OneDrive, please take a screenshot and discuss the content with your HR and Faculty Relations or Equity and Inclusion Office or follow the bullying and harassment reporting process.

  • If you are using MS Teams and/or OneDrive for the first time, please check out the Get started Portal – Microsoft Teams for Instructors. This site includes links to video resources, Instructor Guide, and more.
  • UBC Vancouver: If you're based out of UBC Vancouver and would like support with MS Teams and/or OneDrive, we recommend contacting your faculty's Instructional Support Unit.
  • UBC Okanagan: If you're teaching at UBC Okanagan, please contact the Centre for Teaching and Learning (ctl.helpdesk@ubc.ca) for assistance.
