System Administrator Responsibilities
The database administration team will also perform System Administration tasks for the underlying Linux server.
The table below defines the roles that UBC IT and the Department System Administrator will assume in deploying and maintaining VMs.
Team/Org | Responsibilities |
NMC/Application teams | Firewall Configuration. All firewall rules are required for secure access to the Systems. |
Application team | Load balancing. Configuration and support of load balancing for the Web tier of the Systems. |
DBA | Maintenance of the UBC Department's virtual Operating System(s), databases or content on the VMs. |
DBA | Maintain patches for the database VM after the initial installation. |
DBA | Responsible for the security of the database VM. |
Cybersecurity team | Run regular network vulnerability scans on the VM and advise the owner if there are potential vulnerabilities with their VM. |
System & DBA teams | Backup of Linux OS, data and configurations; restore on request by the UBC Department or in case of system failure. |
Application team | End-to-end application testing, including the following repair or restore actions. |
Systems team | Software upgrades on the physical servers storing the VM images. |
Systems team | Overall maintenance of the virtual infrastructure supporting the VM. |
